Trauma-informed psychiatric care, at a pace that feels safe.

Compassionate, evidence-based evaluation and treatment for PTSD and trauma-related conditions — never rushed, always collaborative.

Experiencing a traumatic event can affect a person long after the event itself has ended. Trauma can influence how a person thinks, feels, sleeps, relates to others, and moves through daily life. Some individuals experience intrusive memories or flashbacks, while others feel constantly on edge, emotionally numb, or disconnected from the people and activities they once enjoyed.

At Jauregui Psychiatry, we understand that trauma affects each person differently, and healing is rarely a straight line. Our approach is grounded in patience, respect, and collaboration — moving at a pace that feels safe for you.

Understanding Trauma

What is PTSD?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event, such as an accident, assault, combat exposure, natural disaster, medical trauma, loss of a loved one, or childhood adversity.

Not everyone who experiences trauma develops PTSD, and symptoms can emerge immediately or months — sometimes years — after the event. PTSD is a medical condition, not a sign of weakness, and effective, evidence-based treatments are available.

Trauma can also occur without meeting full criteria for PTSD. Many individuals benefit from trauma-informed psychiatric care even when their symptoms don't fit neatly into a single diagnostic category.

Recognizing the Signs

Common symptoms of PTSD.

Symptoms are often grouped into four categories.

Intrusive Symptoms
  • Flashbacks
  • Intrusive memories
  • Nightmares
  • Intense distress when reminded of the event
  • Physical reactions to reminders (racing heart, sweating)
Avoidance
  • Avoiding people, places, or situations connected to the trauma
  • Avoiding thoughts, feelings, or conversations related to the event
Negative Changes in Mood & Thinking
  • Persistent negative beliefs about oneself or the world
  • Guilt, shame, or self-blame
  • Emotional numbness
  • Loss of interest in activities
  • Difficulty experiencing positive emotions
  • Memory gaps related to the event
Hyperarousal
  • Feeling constantly on edge or easily startled
  • Irritability or anger
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Hypervigilance
Comprehensive Evaluation

Trauma-related conditions we evaluate.

Trauma can present in many forms, and careful evaluation helps determine the most accurate diagnosis and treatment approach.

PTSD Acute Stress Disorder Complex Trauma Childhood Trauma & Adverse Experiences Trauma-Related Anxiety Trauma-Related Depression Adjustment Disorders

Trauma often overlaps with other conditions.

PTSD frequently occurs alongside depression, anxiety disorders, substance use, sleep disturbances, and other psychiatric conditions. Because these conditions can influence one another, a comprehensive evaluation helps identify the full clinical picture — not just the most visible symptoms — so treatment can be appropriately individualized.

Our Philosophy

Care that moves at your pace.

Trauma-informed care means recognizing the impact that traumatic experiences can have on a person's sense of safety, trust, and control. We strive to create an environment where patients feel respected, believed, and never rushed or pressured to share more than they are ready to.

Every treatment plan is individualized, collaborative, and developed with sensitivity to each person's history, comfort level, and personal goals.

Your First Visit

What to expect during your evaluation.

Your initial evaluation typically lasts approximately 60 minutes. You are never required to share details of a traumatic event before you feel ready. Together, we may discuss your current symptoms, their impact on daily life, general history, sleep, mood, relationships, coping strategies, previous treatment experiences, and personal goals — at whatever pace feels comfortable for you.

Following your evaluation, we'll review our clinical impressions together and discuss treatment options that respect your comfort level and goals.

Treatment

Evidence-based treatment for PTSD & trauma.

Treatment plans are individualized based on your diagnosis, symptoms, comfort level, and personal goals.

  • Medication management when appropriate
  • Psychotherapy referrals for trauma-focused treatment
  • Education about trauma and PTSD
  • Sleep and nightmare management
  • Grounding and coping strategies
  • Regular follow-up care
  • Coordination with therapists and other healthcare professionals

Our goal is not only to reduce symptoms, but to help patients feel safer, more grounded, and more connected to their daily lives.

Lifestyle & Trauma Recovery

Healing from trauma is influenced by many interconnected aspects of health. When appropriate, we discuss evidence-informed lifestyle strategies that may support recovery alongside psychiatric treatment — consistent sleep routines, regular physical activity, grounding and relaxation techniques, balanced nutrition, and rebuilding healthy social connections.

These strategies are never a substitute for evidence-based psychiatric treatment, but they can become meaningful parts of a comprehensive care plan. Learn more about our lifestyle-informed approach →
